On July 1, BGP, a subsidiary of CNPC, started the S71 seismic project under a contract with Saudi Aramco. BGP-Saudi Aramco's other two projects, i.e. S69 and S70, commenced as planned on June 15 and June 1 respectively. This is BPG's another successful bid for geophysical survey in Saudi Arabia, after winning the contract for S53, S63 and S64 in 2009.

BGP and Saudi Aramco signed the contract on S69, S70 and S71 on November 1, 2011. With a record-high contract amount, the projects will be carried out over a term of 5+1 years. In particular, S69 is a 2D desert seismic survey and S70 and S71 are 3D seismic surveys employing the DSSS (Distance Separated Simultaneous Slip-sweep) acquisition technique, making them the world's largest-ever onshore mega-channel acquisition project.
